Adult Basic Skills at the NUWC

Do you need help with your reading and writing? Are there everyday situations where you experience problems with reading and writing? Do you feel it is keeping you back?

The centre now has two qualified 9281 Adult Basic Skills tutors and one volunteer who can help people with their reading, spelling and grammar. We are currently developing our operating systems - assessments, individual learning programmes and resource materials and aim to link these into the National Curriculum by the end of the year.
If you would like one-to-one help with your reading and writing in a friendly and confidential environment, ring or drop in.
We are willing to come out to a location of your choice (e.g. your local community centre) so long as it is within the Norwich area and in daytime hours. We will start by talking with you about your own needs and aims. We will do a basic assessment of your current skills and then develop an individual learning programme which will begin to look at ways in which you can improve your skills. There is no time limit and you can go at your own pace.

Internet Access at the NUWC

Internet Starter Kit

At the NUWC we have developed a quick, enjoyable way to build confidence in using the internet.

bulletNo previous experience required.
bulletFree to the unwaged.
bulletIt takes two hours.
bulletWe can do it as an organised group of three people or as a one-to-one at a time to suit you.
bulletCourse booklet to keep.

We keep to the bare essentials, but by the end of the course you will be able to use a search engine to find information on the Internet on any subject you choose.

Free Training for the Unwaged

NUWC provide a range of services for the unwaged. The training is provided not just to help you get work but also to allow unwaged people to play an active role in the community. As well as learning we hope that you will find the courses fun to be on and a good way to spend a morning or afternoon.

NUWC Job Clubs

Job-hunting can be a lonely and expensive experience. So why not come along to one of our Job Clubs? The Centre runs two Job Clubs in which everything is free - local papers, computers, phone, postage, photocopying, stationery, fax, e-mail and internet. The sessions are very relaxed and informal. Anyone can come along. They are staffed by other non-waged people, who can give you one-to-one advice and support. We can also help you with CVs, letter writing, guidance on how to use the internet, and job application forms. You will be guaranteed a friendly welcome.
